Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has directed the immediate promotion of all workers at various levels in order to increase productivity days before the 2023 governorship election.
On Wednesday, March 8, the governor issued the directive during an interactive session with the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, at the Ochendo International Conference Centre in Umahia.
Ikpeazu approves mass promotion for Abia civil servants
Ikpeazu stated that his administration employed over 5000 workers despite the advice of some people to lay off workers.

The governor added that he understands the implications of laying off workers, thus his decision to employ more workers, a report by Vanguard newspaper confirmed.
March 11 Election: Obi reschedules campaign visit to Abia, gives reason
In another development, the scheduled visit to Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate, to Abia state today, Tuesday, March 7, 2023, has been postponed.
Obi was billed to be in the state to campaign for the LP governorship candidate Chief Alex Otti.
A statement signed by the special adviser to Otti on media and publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, confirmed the postponement of Obi’s visit to The PUNCH on Tuesday, March 7.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, blasted the members of the G5 governors for gloating over his loss at the just concluded poll, Sahara Reporters says.
The spokesperson for the PDP’s presidential campaign council, Dino Melaye, warned the governors not to rejoice over Atiku’s loss because they also lost their bid for senatorial seats
Melaye also noted that the governors cannot claim glory for Atiku’s loss since they also failed to deliver their senatorial election.
