The parties agreed on the following, which led to the suspension of the planned strike on Monday night;

  1. The federal government, the TUC and the NLC to establish a joint committee to review the proposal for any wage increase or award and establish a framework and timeline for implementation.
  2. The federal government, the TUC and the NLC to review the World Bank Financed Cash transfer scheme and propose the inclusion of low-income earners in the programme.
  3. The federal government, the TUC and the NLC to revive the CNG conversion program earlier agreed with labour centres in 2021 and work out detailed implementation and tinting.
  4. The Labour centres and the federal government to review issues hindering effective delivery in the education sector and propose solutions for implementation.
  5. The Labour centres and the federal government to review and establish the framework for the completion of the rehabilitation of the nation’s refineries.
  6. The federal government to provide a framework for the maintenance of roads and the expansion of rail networks across the country.
  7. All other demands submitted by the TUC to the federal government will be assessed by the joint committee.

The parties also agreed on the following:

  • The NLC is to suspend the notice of strike forthwith to enable further consultations.
  • The TUC and the NLC to continue the ongoing engagements with the federal government and secure closure on the resolutions above.

Interestingly, the Labour unions and the FG also agreed to meet on June 19, 2023, to decide on an implementation framework.

NLC, TUC restrained from embarking on strike over subsidy removal

calabargistblog.com.ng earlier reported that an Abuja federal high court has restrained the NLC, TUC, and other unions planning to embark on strike pending the time it will decide on the cases before it.

The NLC has earlier directed its members to embark on a nationwide strike from Wednesday against the removal of the fuel subsidy.

The decision of the court followed the announcement by the judicial workers that it would be joining the industrial actions.

Reason NLC planned strike against Tinubu’s removal of fuel subsidy may not be strong

It was gathered on Saturday night, June 3, that the planned action against the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s news administration, was being politicized as the chapters from south-west and northwest states have resolved to back out from the protest.

However, in order to make the planned strike effective, the national leadership of the NLC has written to no less than 43 affiliated unions to be part of the already scheduled industrial actions
